Punjab Kings will look to halt their worrying decline when they take on in-form Delhi Capitals in an IPL 2026 clash at the beautiful HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Monday. After being the only unbeaten team earlier in the tournament, PBKS have now suffered three consecutive defeats and need to quickly build momentum towards the end of the season.Punjab’s recent struggles have come due to poor fielding, expensive bowling from the fast bowlers led by Arshdeep Singh and the decline of openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. However, captain Shreyas Iyer remains optimistic and has urged his team to stick to the aggressive mindset that has led to success earlier in the tournament.

The evening is expected to be cool in Dharamshala with the temperature hovering around 14 degrees Celsius, while thunderstorms and scattered rain are expected early in the day. Trump calls Iran draft resolution ‘completely unacceptable’: What was in it?
Iran’s latest response to the US-backed ceasefire proposal demanded Washington make sweeping political, military and economic concessions – including sanctions relief, compensation for war damage, the withdrawal of US forces from the region and recognition of Tehran’s authority over the Strait of Hormuz – terms swiftly rejected by President Donald Trump.Tehran’s response came after Washington presented a 14-point proposal aimed at ending the 10-week conflict that has disrupted global oil supplies and raised tensions across the Middle East, according to reports by Iranian state media and Al Jazeera.Although neither side publicly released the full text of the resolutions, key disagreements highlighted deep divisions over Iran’s nuclear program, regional influence and control of vital shipping routes.Iran’s proposal reportedly called for the United States to lift sanctions, end the naval blockade of Iranian ports, and lift restrictions on Iranian oil exports as part of any ceasefire arrangement.
compensation for damage
Tehran also demanded the lifting of the seizure of approximately $20 billion in Iranian assets and compensation of approximately $270 billion for damages caused by US and Israeli attacks during the conflict.
control over the strait of hormuz
A major sticking point emerged over the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway through which about a fifth of the world’s oil supply passed before the conflict escalated. Iran reportedly demanded formal recognition of its control over shipping through the strait, including the right to levy transit fees, while demanding an end to the US blockade of Iranian ports. However, Washington has insisted that the blockade will continue until a comprehensive agreement is reached.
nuclear control
Another major issue of controversy involved Iran’s nuclear program. The US proposal reportedly demands that Tehran completely halt its nuclear activities and hand over its stockpile of approximately 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium to US custody.Iran rejected both demands, arguing that any restrictions on its nuclear program could only be temporary and refusing to surrender its uranium reserves.
US military withdrawal
The Iranian response also linked any ceasefire to broader regional issues. Tehran reportedly demanded the withdrawal of US forces from the region and a halt to all hostilities, including Israel’s military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon.Meanwhile, the US has sought to curb Iran’s support for regional allies such as Hezbollah and Hamas, while also pushing for limits on Tehran’s ballistic missile program.
Trump called the proposal unacceptable
Within hours of the Iranian response becoming public, Trump rejected it outright.“I just read the response from the so-called “representatives” of Iran. I don’t like it – completely unacceptable! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, without specifying which parts of the resolution Washington found unacceptable. The rejection immediately roiled global energy markets, sending oil prices rising nearly $3 a barrel amid fears the standoff would prolong the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. The ongoing tensions have also highlighted growing international concern over the economic consequences of the conflict. NATO allies have reportedly resisted US calls to send naval forces to reopen the strait without a comprehensive peace agreement and an internationally mandated mission.Trump is expected to discuss Iran with the Chinese president Xi Jinping During his upcoming visit to Beijing, Washington wants Beijing’s help in pressuring Tehran for a deal.israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu Said that the war is not over and stressed that more work remains to dismantle Iran’s enrichment capabilities, ballistic missile program and regional proxy networks.Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian responded by saying that Iran would “never bow to the enemy” and would continue to defend its national interests “with force.”Despite diplomatic efforts, tension remains in the entire region. The United Arab Emirates said it intercepted two drones launched from Iran on Sunday, while Qatar condemned a drone attack on a cargo ship in its territorial waters. Kuwait also reported the entry of hostile drones into its airspace.Meanwhile, clashes between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah continue in southern Lebanon despite an earlier US-brokered ceasefire.
Vijay: Vijay’s first day as Chief Minister and Tamil Nadu song controversy: What happened? | india news
New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thalapathy VictoryThe swearing-in ceremony created controversy when the state song ‘Tamil Thai Vazhathu’ was placed third after the national song and the national anthem during the programme. This raised eyebrows as government events in Tamil Nadu begin with the presentation of the state song and end with the national anthem.

Vijay faces political storm after playing Vande Mataram before Tamil Thai Vazhthu
This happened after the Union Cabinet approved the proposal to amend the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act to put ‘Vande Mataram’ at par with the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’.Under the proposed amendment, insulting or disrupting the national anthem could attract the same punishment as is currently applicable to the national anthem, the national flag and the Constitution.‘Violation of established tradition’CPI, one of the parties that supported TVK in forming the government, strongly objected to the order of playing the songs and said that “Tamil Thai Vazhathu” should retain the most prominent place in government functions in the state.CPI state secretary M Veerapandian issued a letter after the swearing-in ceremony and said the order was a violation of the long-standing tradition in Tamil Nadu, where official ceremonies traditionally begin with ‘Tamil Thai Vazhathu’ and end with the national anthem.“As per the instructions issued by the Raj Bhavan, giving priority to the song ‘Vande Mataram’ and placing Tamil at the third position in the program program of the swearing-in ceremony organized by the Government of Tamil Nadu is a violation of the established tradition. The Government of Tamil Nadu should tell the public who was responsible for this omission. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam should ensure that Thamizhathai Vazhathu is given primacy. Such errors should not be allowed to continue. TN Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and the Pro Tem Speaker are to ensure that during tomorrow’s Assembly session called for the swearing-in of MLAs as well as all government functions and functions, Thamizhthai Vazhathu is sung at the beginning and the national anthem is played at the conclusion,” Veerapandian wrote in the letter.Veerapandian further alleged that the issue has historical and ideological implications. He said it was during the freedom struggle itself that it was decided that ‘Vande Mataram’ could not serve as the national anthem because the song was dedicated to a specific deity and had a communal religious character.“In this context, the decision taken allegedly under the instructions of Lok Bhavan to give priority place to ‘Vande Mataram’ by keeping the Tamil invocation at the third position in the agenda of the swearing-in ceremony organized by the Tamil Nadu government is a violation of the established tradition,” he alleged.TVK distanced itselfSoon after the controversy began, TVK distanced itself and claimed that the party did not agree with the Tamil invocation song being played at the third position and supported the “common practice” followed in Tamil Nadu.Minister Aadhav Arjun said, “The Tamil invocation song beginning with ‘Neerarum Kadludutha…’ carries a century-old legacy of historical glory. As a continuation of the aspiration ‘May it spread throughout the world…’, this song was declared the state anthem by the Government of Tamil Nadu. It is a very solemn Tamil invocation song which is first played at functions including government functions in Tamil Nadu. The national anthem is played at the end of the program. This is common practice; Proper practice.”“The new government formed in Tamil Nadu led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has no different view on this customary practice. As such, at today’s swearing-in ceremony for the Chief Minister and other ministers held under the chairmanship of Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, first the Vande Mataram was played, then the national anthem and the third Tamil invocation song was played. This new practice is not suitable for Tamil Nadu. “In mother Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu government led by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam does not agree with the Tamil invocation song being played at the third position,” he said.He further said that in future, the state song will be played at the beginning of the programs and the national anthem will be played at the end.“When we pressed the Governor’s side on this matter, it was told that it is the responsibility of the Governor to act as per the new circular of the Central Government. In that unavoidable situation, the Tamil invocation song was played as the third song. However, this new practice will not be followed in future. Instead, as per earlier practice, the Tamil invocation song will be played at the beginning of the program and the national anthem at the end!” he said.Message for BJP?The move, which is being seen as a message to the BJP, comes in line with the Union Home Ministry’s directive making it mandatory to play the full version of the national anthem at ceremonial and government functions.Although the Centre’s rules were followed in Tamil Nadu, they were not followed at the swearing-in ceremony of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday. The event was historic as it was the first time that the BJP government was formed in Bengal and it was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and others.During the ceremony, Vijay stood next to the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, who has sharply criticized the Centre’s allegation that the Congress during Jawaharlal Nehru’s time had removed parts of Vande Mataram to stoke communal tension.
Rahul Gandhi calls PM Modi’s appeal of ‘not buying gold for a year’ as ‘proof of failure’. india news
New Delhi: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi made a scathing attack on the Prime Minister on Monday Narendra Modi He then urged citizens to postpone gold purchases, reduce fuel consumption and avoid traveling abroad, citing the appeal as evidence of “failure”.“Yesterday, Modi ji asked the public to make sacrifices – don’t buy gold, don’t go abroad, use less petrol, cut down on fertilizers and cooking oil, take the metro, work from home. These are not sermons – these are testimonials to failure,” Rahul Gandhi said in a post on Twitter.

The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha said the appeal has exposed the limitations of PM Modi’s decade-long tenure.“In 12 years, he has led the country to a position where it now has to tell the public – what to buy, what not to buy, where to go, where not to go. Every time, they shift the responsibility onto people so that they themselves can escape accountability. Running the country is no longer in the power of a compromising Prime Minister.”The comments came as PM Modi, while addressing a BJP rally in Hyderabad on Sunday, called on the public to make economic sacrifices, citing the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its pressure on India’s foreign exchange reserves. The Prime Minister urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, use metro services, car pool, adopt electric vehicles and work from home where possible. He also asked people to postpone gold buying and foreign travel for a year and reduce the use of edible oil and chemical fertilizers.“We have to save foreign exchange by any means,” PM Modi said at the rally. “During COVID-19, we switched to work from home, virtual meetings, video conferencing and many other methods. We got used to them. The need of the hour is to reintroduce those methods.”Terming the measures as a national duty during the global crisis, the Prime Minister said the West Asia conflict has significantly increased the prices of petrol and fertilizers, affecting the supply chain despite government intervention.
Three people of Indian origin convicted in the murder of an elderly couple in Canada; Husband suffocated with duct tape, wife beaten with a hammer
Joan and Arnold de Jong in 2022
Three Indian-origin men in Canada have been found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of an elderly couple inside their home in Abbotsford, British Columbia. According to CBC News report, it has been almost four days since this crime took place.BC Supreme Court Justice Brenda Brown ruled Friday that Gurkaran Singh, Abhijeet Singh and Khushveer Toor were all guilty in the deaths of Arnold and Joanne de Jong, who were found dead in their Abbotsford home on May 9, 2022.The judge agreed with prosecutors that the murders were planned in advance and carried out for money. The courtroom was packed with relatives and friends of the de Jong family.Arnold, 77, and Joan de Jong, 76, were found dead in separate bedrooms of their home on Arcadian Way in East Abbotsford. Disturbing details of the murders emerged in court proceedings.Joan was found in a pool of blood on her bed. A pathologist determined that she died from a knife wound to the neck and blunt-force injuries to the head, believed to have been caused by a screwdriver and hammer.Arnold was found in another bedroom with his hands and feet bound. His head and face were tightly wrapped with duct tape. The court heard he died of asphyxiation. All three accused knew the couple before the murder. Abhijeet Singh was the owner of a cleaning company and the other two men worked for him. The business had worked on the De Jong residence on several occasions before the murders. The trio planned a home invasion to rob the couple and then murder them. They later used the victims’ stolen credit cards, checks and identities to make purchases, withdraw funds and repay loans.DNA evidence also linked all three men to the crime. Investigators found DNA at the home, on the rope used to tie Arnold de Jong, and on a metal baseball bat recovered from the suspects’ vehicle. Some internet searches were also conducted by Abhijeet Singh after the news of the deaths became public. The findings were “extraordinarily damaging”, including questions about how murderers are punished in Canada.Defense attorneys argued throughout the trial that the murders were not planned and that the incident was a robbery that got out of control. He claimed there was no direct evidence that his client intended to kill the couple.Justice Brown rejected that argument. The judge said that the accused knew that the De Jongs could recognize them because they had worked at the house before and that was the reason the couple were not released alive.Following the verdict, family members expressed relief but said the pain of losing their parents still lingered.“[It] I felt like my heart was going to come out of my chest,” daughter Sandra Barthel said after hearing the verdict. She added: “I think there was joy in that, knowing that the judge saw it for what it was and she was able to process it.”Another daughter, Kimberly Coleman, said: “They were people who could never be replaced… There were so many things about them that were so special to us that we miss every day.”The sentencing of Gurkaran Singh, Abhijeet Singh and Khushveer Toor has been fixed for May 28. Under Canadian law, a conviction for first-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
31% of all deaths by suicide in 2024 were daily wage earners, highest in a decade: NCRB | india news
New Delhi: According to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, the share of daily wage earners in all suicide deaths in 2024 was 31%, the highest share in a decade (2015-2024). A total of 52,910 daily wage earners died by suicide during the year, a sharp increase from the previous peak of 26.4% recorded in 2022.Casual labourers, a category that largely includes daily wage earners, constitute about one-fifth and the largest share of India’s total workforce. .
A comparative analysis of suicide deaths since 2015 shows that the three largest categories under “suicide victims by profession” include daily wage earners, housewives and self-employed people. The agriculture category was introduced in the NCRB’s Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India report in 2016.According to the 2024 NCRB report, Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of suicides among daily wage earners at 10,556 – almost one-fifth of all deaths in the country – followed by Maharashtra (6,811), Telangana (5,745), Madhya Pradesh (5,299) and Chhattisgarh (3,413). Among the causes of suicide, “family problems” remained the leading cause, accounting for 35% of all deaths, with “illness” accounting for 17.9%.The major means of death by suicide were hanging (62.3%), consuming poison (24.5%), drowning (4.4%) and falling under moving vehicles or trains (2.5%).
Bangladesh can be referee between India, China, but not football: Tariq Ally
Adviser on Foreign Affairs to Prime Minister Tariq Rahman Humayun Kobir has stressed on the ‘Bangladesh first policy’ while maintaining ties with major global powers including India, China and the US, saying Bangladesh will not become a “football” between India and China. His comments come as Dhaka is looking to balance bilateral relations with several countries, especially those in its neighbourhood, through cooperation in various sectors including infrastructure, trade, energy.“We can act as referees from time to time to ensure fair play, but we will not be football,” Kobir said at a roundtable discussion on Saturday. Asked about his relations with China and India, Kobir pointed to Dhaka’s intentions to play a bigger role in the region. Describing China as an “important development partner” for Bangladesh, he said, “Bangladesh will maintain balanced relations with both countries while firmly protecting its interests.”Humayun Kobir, advisor on foreign affairs to Bangladesh PM Tariq Rahman, stressed that Dhaka will continue to pursue “balanced global engagement” as a strategic policy option. “Balance is not a weakness. Balance is a strategy,” he said.He said the BNP-led government will pursue the “Bangladesh first” foreign principle based on pragmatism, strategic balance and national interest. Responding to questions from diplomats, academics and policy experts, Humayun said the government would avoid excessive dependence on any one country and instead adopt a “flexible and multi-pronged” diplomatic strategy.Humayun also questioned the relevance of the traditional foreign policy slogan “friendship towards all, malice towards none” and argued that a more strategic and realistic approach is required in today’s volatile geopolitical environment. The new principle does not mean separatism. Rather, Bangladesh’s sovereignty, development and national interests should be given priority, he said.He also argued that the democratic legitimacy of the new government strengthens Bangladesh’s position on the global stage. “We are a legitimately elected government with the mandate of the people. This gives us a position of strength in negotiations,” he said.On South Asian diplomacy, Kabir said the government wants to revive regional cooperation frameworks including SAARC and BIMSTEC, adding that he believes stronger engagement will amplify Bangladesh’s voice.
Who is Amos Yee? Controversial Singapore YouTuber attacked by Yuji Itadori cosplayer outside anime convention
Amos Yee is again in the headlines and once again controversy has followed him. The 27-year-old Singaporean content creator was allegedly attacked outside the Doujima anime convention at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Center on May 9. Video circulating online showing a teenager dressed like Yuji Itadori from the anime series Jujutsu Kaisen punching and kicking Yi during a chaotic confrontation quickly spread on social media. The incident reignited debate over Yi’s long and deeply divisive public image. While some online users condemned the physical attack, others pointed to the years of scandals that have surrounded the former child actor turned blogger and YouTuber. The clash outside the conference has now become one of the most talked-about streamer-related controversies in Singapore this week.
Amos Yee’s controversial history continues to haunt him
Before becoming a viral internet personality, Amos Yee worked as a child actor in Singapore. He later gained an online following through provocative political and religious commentary. His criticism of former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his videos mocking religion led to several arrests in Singapore in the mid-2010s.In 2017, Yi moved to the United States and was granted political asylum. However, his situation worsened years later when authorities in Illinois charged him with grooming-related crimes, solicitation and possession of explicit material involving minors. He was sentenced to prison in 2021 before allegedly violating parole conditions and was later released on parole. After being deported to Singapore in March 2026, he faced additional legal Investigations related to national service obligations. That background heavily shaped the public reaction to his attempt to attend the Doujima conference. The organizers had already announced this Instagram that a “known problematic influencer” would not be allowed entry and said they were working to ban him from future events.
Amos Yee blames Doujima organizers after Singapore attack
Despite the ban, Yi still appeared near the conference venue and shared photos from outside the event. One post was captioned:“Protect your children.”After the attack, Yee posted photos of his injuries online and blamed organizers for increasing tension around his appearance. He wrote: “Honestly, if the organizers hadn’t banned me. I probably would have gone in, browsed the shops, had people come over to take selfies, many would have been disgusted to see me, but fuck them. And it’s a nice, happy day. Instead you banned me, causing people to get angry and cause my attack”He also denied rumors circulating online, saying:“Mao, there are stupid rumors being spread around that I attacked the first attacker or that I was taking pictures of an upskirt girl. There were ten thousand people there, and many of them were videoing me and following me. If I had done those things, there would have been evidence. Where is the evidence?”According to reports, the 18-year-old cosplayer involved in the attack was later arrested on charges of creating a public nuisance.
Did the government block Rahul Gandhi’s Instagram reel with Vijay? What did the ministry say? india news
New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Monday refuted Congress’s claim that Instagram has “blocked” Rahul Gandhi’s reel and photo with newly appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, and alleged that the ministry is actively restricting the voice of opposition leaders in the country.Sources told news agency ANI that the ministry had nothing to do with the action and the platform’s internal systems had mistakenly marked the post for blocking.Sources said, “It has been wrongly claimed by some social media handles that some of LoP’s posts were banned by MeitY. It has been clarified that MeitY has nothing to do with this action; it happened because the platform’s own internal system had mistakenly marked the post for blocking, which has now been restored on the platform.”This came after former Youth Congress national campaign chief Srivatsa claimed that the reel had received 12 million views in less than an hour, while the viral photo post reached 46 million people.“Instagram has blocked the reel and picture post of LOP Rahul Gandhi at today’s swearing-in ceremony, which he and Thalapathy Vijay attended. The viral reel was viewed 12 million times in less than an hour and the viral picture post had already reached 46 million people,” Srivatsa said.He said, “Meta has not provided any reason as to why his account has become inaccessible. The ‘glitch’ is due to MeitY rules. Rahul Gandhi’s social media accounts have been suppressed for a long time. His X reach, YouTube views and Instagram followers have all been suppressed. This is how the voice of opposition leaders in India is suppressed.”This happened when Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Rahul also attended the function and later shared several pictures with the actor-politician on social media.Congress, with five MLAs, supported Vijay’s TVK, which emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.Earlier, Tamil Nadu witnessed one of the most dramatic political transitions in its modern history when actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of the state, ending the decades-long political dominance of the DMK and AIADMK and ushering in “a new era of genuine, secular and social justice”.As thousands of supporters cheered, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay and his cabinet colleagues. In his emotional first speech as chief minister, Vijay repeatedly highlighted his humble background and rejected any larger-than-life political image around him. “My dear people, my own family… I am not a divine messenger or prophet. I am an ordinary person living a normal life. I will never betray you with false promises. I will only promise what is possible,” he said to deafening applause.Thanking the young voters and children who enthusiastically campaigned for him, Vijay made a special mention of his Gen Z supporters, saying, “Special thanks to those little friends who call me ‘Vijay Mama’. It is because of them all this has happened. I will repay your debt of gratitude by working for your future. Rest assured – this Vijay Mama will always be there for you.”This line immediately became the biggest attraction of the online ceremony.Describing his victory as “a new beginning”, the TVK founder declared, “Let us all come together to give a new government to Tamil Nadu. This is the beginning of a new era of genuine, secular and social justice.”
