IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad punish poor PBKS to top the table

Brief Scores, SRH vs PBKS: Sunrisers Hyderabad (235 for 4 in 20 overs) beat Punjab Kings (202 for 7 in 20 overs) by 33 runs in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

If you think dropping catches is the only way fielding can hurt a team, Punjab Kings have come up with a warning that good chances can do just as much damage. On a warm evening at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, PBKS found themselves on the wrong side of that contradiction. While they missed crucial chances, Sunrisers Hyderabad caught them with assurance, and that contradiction told the story as they registered a 33-run win to top the table.

SRH vs PBK: highlighted | Achievement:

In T20 cricket, catches are what win you the game. But here, he shaped the competition in more ways than one. Chasing a challenging target of over 200, the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings, in this season of the Indian Premier League, looked like a team you would normally count on to achieve it. This has been his identity this season, fearless in scoring goals, clinical under pressure.

Yet, standing in his way was Pat Cummins, a captain who has built a reputation for calming down surging opposition. And on this night, as they have so often, Cummins and his men came up with a plan, and had the discipline to execute it when it mattered most.

Cooper Connolly did his best to rectify earlier shortcomings in the field for PBKS. However, his maternal IPL A century can only compensate for the damage done to his net run rate. The Australian remained unbeaten on 107 as wickets continued to fall at the other end.

trivishek vs prabharya

On a batting-friendly surface at Uppal, the stage was set for a Travishack vs Chargeds encounter. However, only one party appeared. While SRH’s opening stand did not last long, it was enough to cause early damage to the PBKS bowlers, who have faced a tough time in the powerplay this season.

SRH ‘Brothers of Destruction’ reach lead of 54 runs In just 21 balls before Abhishek Sharma was out. PBKS bowlers had a clear plan: keep it short and make it difficult to hit. But before any mistakes could be made, the duo had already punished them all around the field. Abhishek scored 35 runs in 13 balls before mistiming the ball of Lockie Ferguson.

Soon after Abhishek’s dismissal, Travis Head took charge and carried the pace. He scored 38 runs in 19 balls before missing the ball from Yuzvendra Chahal.

In contrast, PBKS openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya returned to the pavilion within the first seven balls of the chase. They could score only four runs between themselves, which is their lowest combined opening score in an IPL innings since 2024.

cummins masterclass

While dropped chances grabbed the attention, Cummins’ tactical genius stood out. His team did their homework to dismantle the PBKS batting unit chasing a big target, Like his effort against Delhi CapitalsEasily this season.

SRH read the conditions well and stuck to their plans. The bowlers scored runs consistently, breaking the backbone of PBKS’s chase. Cummins’ captaincy shone, whether it was laying the net for Arya, who top-edged a pull, or handing the ball to Reddy, who struck with his very first ball.

The Australian captain was named player of the match for his excellent performance in defending the target. Against a team that makes chasing targets easier on flat pitches.

The price of the discarded catch is 235

If PBKS thought bowling was their only concern, they were in for a long night. Dropped catches and a missed stumping allowed SRH to go free. Punjab has dropped around 16 to 17 catches this season.

After Travishack’s departure, Ishan Kishan combined with Heinrich Klaasen to deepen PBKS’s misery. The pair put on a partnership of 88 runs off 48 balls and pushed the game beyond reach. Both completed their half-centuries with ease as PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting watched helplessly.

Klaasen said after the innings, “The ball got softer and started to stop a bit in the middle overs. But I still want to keep it in my pocket and take it everywhere. It’s a medium pace wicket. Great to bat on.”

Klaasen’s 69 off 43 proved decisive, leaving Ponting and Iyer little room to respond. Nitish Kumar Reddy gave the finishing touch and remained unbeaten after scoring 29 runs in 13 balls. With this, SRH maintained its dominance over Punjab in Uppal.

With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad move to 14 points with three games remaining, while Punjab Kings, who have made a great start to the season, move to 13 points with four matches left.

Mexico City is slowly sinking: NASA radar reveals hidden land collapse due to groundwater depletion and deepening water crisis

Mexico City has recently attracted considerable attention due to its worrisome behavior that cannot be explained by typical urban factors. According to recent observations made using satellites, some areas of Mexico City are beginning to sink at an alarming rate. Although no destructive landslide process is occurring in Mexico City, the phenomenon is becoming more intense and noticeable in some specific areas. There is no doubt that this process is linked to the existing water problem, which is affecting millions of people in Mexico City. The subsidence process in Mexico City does not have immediate catastrophic consequences. Nevertheless, the city has begun to change slowly and irreversibly. Satellite images provide a better understanding of how city surfaces move. However, they also demonstrate how complex the interplay between water and geological processes has become in Mexico City.Scientists claim that there is a need to implement new water management policies and develop sustainable urban development plans to effectively address the problem. If something is not changed soon, Mexico City will experience additional landslides.

How an old lake is still affecting Mexico City today

Mexico City was initially built on the basin of an old lake; Therefore, this is responsible for its current weaknesses. The soil in this area is made up of very loose and dense layers of soil which makes it weak when pressure changes. Over time, this inherent characteristic makes the area vulnerable to groundwater withdrawal. This is because water is removed from the underground aquifer layer, resulting in voids that begin to sink, causing the surface land to sink. It does not affect the entire area but only some neighborhoods. It has been suggested that this places additional stress on buildings and structures.

NASA radar shows mexico city is sinking in detail

Advanced satellite technology has made it possible to observe these changes with astonishing accuracy. Radar instruments used in Earth-observation missions can detect ground movements down to the millimeter level. This allows scientists to track how the city is changing over time, rather than relying only on surface damage reports.Recent data reportedly shows that parts of Mexico City are sinking at a rate of about 0.8 inches per month. This may not seem dramatic in the short term, but over a year it adds up significantly. Changes are often invisible from day to day, yet they accumulate in ways that can affect entire neighborhoods.Experts say this type of monitoring is important because it reveals patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed until the damage becomes severe.

Why is Mexico City’s water system under pressure from below?

At the heart of the issue is the city’s dependence on groundwater. A large portion of Mexico City’s drinking water comes from an ancient aquifer system located beneath the surface. Over the decades, this resource has been heavily exploited to support the city’s growing population. However, continued excavation has created imbalance underground. As water is removed faster than it can be naturally replenished, the supporting structure of the soil weakens. This causes compaction, causing the land above to sink.

Visible effects of cracks, tilts, and sinking ground

The effects of subsidence are becoming increasingly evident in daily life, where in some places roads are no longer level, and cracks in the ground are visible. Some structures have tilted slightly due to subsidence as they react to ground shifting. There is also pressure on infrastructure, with underground pipelines and transportation and drainage systems having to constantly adjust to accommodate ground level changes. In some cases, maintenance may be much higher than in other larger cities. One of the areas that is being carefully monitored for any signs of change is Benito Juarez International Airport. Since airport runways must be perfectly level, even minor variations in the ground can cause problems.

How is demand for water exacerbating the problem in Mexico City?

This issue is directly related to water shortage in Mexico City. The city has more than 20 million inhabitants and the need for water is high. With the continued depletion of groundwater resources, there are increasing concerns over the sustainability of water availability. There have been warnings of what is known as “Day Zero”. This includes reaching a critical point of water shortage, which means that water will stop coming through taps for some parts of the residents. Although this does not appear to be an imminent threat, it is often said to be a result of current trends.Since it is linked to the issue of water consumption, it becomes even more complex. Extraction of groundwater leads to land subsidence and water distribution subsequently becomes difficult.

After delay, light at the end of Pragati Maidan tunnel delhi news

After delay, light at the end of Pragati Maidan tunnel
Work on the final underpass on Bhairon Marg near Pragati Maidan has progressed.

New Delhi: The Public Works Department (PWD) has set a deadline of February 2027 to complete the construction of the much-delayed Bhairon Marg underpass – a vital part of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor.PWD Minister Parvesh Verma has said that the “box issue” has almost been resolved and the agency will complete the project by next February. He said that Railways has given in-principle approval to stop train movement for a few days, after which work on this section will proceed. The issue at Pragati Maidan Underpass No. 5 includes structural failures: precast concrete boxes pushed under active railway lines through the “box-pushing” method in 2023 sank, broke and stopped due to severe water leakage leading to flooding in the Yamuna. The underpass is designed to provide signal-free connectivity between Sarai Kale Khan and Mathura Road. It aims to reduce transit time by reducing heavy traffic at ITO intersection and surrounding areas and improve overall traffic flow between East, Central and South-East Delhi, including major stretches near ITO, Rajghat and Laxmi Nagar. Once completed, it will allow commuters to bypass the congested Ring Road-Bhairon Marg junction.“It is set to ease travel for daily commuters from Noida and Central Delhi who use the Ring Road and Mathura Road corridors,” an official said.Officials said that since this stretch passes directly under operational railway tracks, the PWD had requested to stop train movement to prevent sinking of concrete boxes under the railway lines and also because intensive ground stabilization work cannot be carried out while trains are running. The transit corridor project, slated to be inaugurated in June 2022, is a 1.36 km long, six-lane main tunnel designed to decongest central Delhi by connecting Mathura Road to Ring Road. It has six underground underpasses: four on Mathura Road, one on Bhairon Marg and another connecting Bhairon Marg to Ring Road. Underpass No. 5, also known as Bhairon Marg-Ring Road Underpass, is the only incomplete part of the project.PWD has been struggling to fully operationalize the Bhairon Marg underpass for more than three years. However, once the Railways gives its permission, the PWD hopes to complete it by next February, Verma said. The project, funded by the Central Government, was built at a cost of over Rs 920 crore. It also aims to provide hassle-free and seamless access to the new world-class exhibition and convention center at Pragati Maidan, allowing easy participation of exhibitors and visitors. The main tunnel connects the Ring Road to India Gate via Purana Qila Road and passes through Pragati Maidan. The six-lane divided tunnel serves several purposes, including allowing access to Pragati Maidan’s vast basement parking.

Return of ‘Ghost Lake’: California’s largest lost body of water resurfaces after 130 years world News

'Ghost Lake' returns: California's largest lost body of water resurfaces after 130 years

Tulare Lake, once known as Pashi by the Tachi Yokut tribe, has made a stunning comeback. This rare phenomenon shows how a long-lost terminal lake can reclaim its original basin. It used to be the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi until it was drained for farming purposes in the late 1800s. However, in 2023, extreme weather and record snowfall in the Sierra Nevada refilled the basin, covering more than 100,000 acres. The event highlights California’s unpredictable water cycles and points to the limits of modern flood control. In addition to impacting the Central Valley’s economy, the lake’s return has promoted ecological revival, attracted many migratory birds and renewed indigenous cultural areas.

California’s largest lost water reservoir resurfaces

According to the California Department of Water Resources, the Tulare Lake Basin is a terminal sink for the Kings, Kaweah, Tule, and White rivers. While it was considered ‘extinct’ due to 20th century water diversions and land reclamation for farming, the basin remains a natural topographic depression. In 2023, the sheer volume of runoff from the Sierra Nevada exceeded the capacity of man-made canals and dams, causing water to follow its natural gravity-driven path back into the ‘ghost lake’.

how 12 atmospheric rivers A lost lake revived

Re-emergence was promoted by a ‘Big Fill’ event caused by a series of more than 12 atmospheric rivers. As the California Department of Water Resources reported, these storms left snow accumulations in the southern Sierra Nevada that were nearly 300 percent of the normal average. As this record snowpack melted, it overwhelmed the Kings River and Tule River watersheds, causing sustained flooding of agricultural areas downstream of Tulare Lake.

How a dry basin reactivated its biological cycle

Despite being a disaster for local infrastructure, the revived lake immediately served as an important stop on the Pacific Flyway. Ornithological observations recorded thousands of waterbirds, including American avocets, black-necked stilts, and various duck species, nesting in the newly formed wetlands. This rapid colonization demonstrates the ‘ecological memory’ of the landscape, where dormant seeds and biological cycles are reactivated when flooded.

existence of indigenous Pashi

For the Tachi Yokut tribe, the return of the lake is the restoration of Pashi. Research indicates that the lake was the center of the region’s biodiversity and indigenous livelihoods for centuries before the lake was diverted. The resurgence has allowed tribal members to perform traditional ceremonies on the water for the first time in generations, emphasizing that ‘the lake never died,’ but was only suppressed by industrial engineering.

Strait of Hormuz technically open, but not operational: National shipowners’ body chief india news

Hormuz Jolt: India's grand plan to avoid global chokepoint; Future Proofing Oil, Business

New Delhi: The Strait of Hormuz is technically open, but commercial shipping is far from normal, according to Anil Deoli, chief executive of the Mumbai-based Indian National Shipowners Association, a nearly century-old body that speaks for the country’s shipping industry. The risk is high as 14 Indian ships are stuck in the chokepoint, which carries half of India’s crude oil and most of its LPG. And Deoli said the earlier attacks on Indian ships by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were bound to create a sense of hesitation among sailors.

Hormuz Jolt: India’s grand plan to avoid global chokepoint; Future Proofing Oil, Business

The blockade of Iran continues despite a fragile ceasefire, while the US on Wednesday halted a three-day naval mission to open the Strait of Hormuz.“Technically, Hormuz is open. Ships are transiting, but for commercial traffic. The risks are still very high,” Deoli said. times of India On Wednesday. Before the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in late February, thousands of ships passed through the strait each month. But by April, crossings fell to barely 5%.Ships stuck in the strait currently avoid a lethal combination of sanctions, IRGC patrols and naval escorts.Deoli said, “We understand that some neutral-flag ships are transiting with Iran’s tacit permission or US protection”, but “normal traffic” has stopped. The ships that are moving are doing so on borrowed time and on borrowed trust – ships from countries that Iran considers “friends,” Chinese-flagged bulk carriers broadcasting their ownership over open radio, Pakistani ships, neutral-flagged tankers carrying cargo to neutral countries, including India. As of Monday, US-flagged commercial ships had also stayed away. And until recently, not a single American-flagged ship had crossed it.That changed on May 4 when two U.S.-flagged merchant ships transited Hormuz amid the Iranian blockade under the escort of a U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer as part of Washington’s Project Freedom. When the first Indian ship came out, then the second, sixth, seventh, eighth – confidence was growing. Then, on April 18, two Indian-flagged ships were fired upon by IRGC boats: VLCC Sanmar Herald (2 million barrels of Iraqi crude) and bulk carrier Jag Arnav. An audio captured the Sanmar Herald’s radio plea: “Sipah Navy! You cleared – I’m second on your list. Now you’re firing! Let me back!”The incident prompted India to raise the matter with the Iranian ambassador regarding the safety of its sailors, but the trust of Indian sailors – already fragile – was broken.“‘You cleaned me out yourself,’ the captain was heard saying to the Iranians over the radio. It tells you the level of uncertainty that sailors on ships passing through the strait are dealing with,” Deoli said.A few weeks ago, a Hong Kong-bound tanker sank after attempting a surreptitious transit – collided and burst into flames – after the IRGC warned all traffic about mined waters. There was a brief success over the weekend. Marshall Islands-flagged MT Sarva Shakti, carrying 46,313 tonnes of LPG for Indian Oil Corporation and manned by 18 Indians, transited the strait on 2 May and is expected to reach Visakhapatnam by 13 May. This is the first tanker tied to India after the collapse of peace talks in Islamabad on April 13 and the subsequent nearly two weeks of severe disruption caused by the US naval blockade around Iranian ports.During the height of hostilities last month, Gulf port operations also slowed dramatically. Shipping supplies, food distribution and basic services for Indian sailors and crew members were disrupted in several hubs, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait. That situation has since stabilized, Deoli said.India has so far facilitated the movement of eight LPG ships through the strait during the crisis with diplomatic engagement and close coordination between Iranian and Indian government agencies, naval authorities and maritime bodies. Indian flagged ships are currently operating strictly under compliance protocols with government instructions and restrictions.NUSI and the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) have advised Indian personnel in the region to maintain strict vigilance in Iranian waters and the Strait of Hormuz, avoid unnecessary shore departures, keep communication systems operational and regularly monitor advisories issued by Indian authorities.Since shipowners pay premiums to keep crew on board, war-risk insurance costs have increased sharply by as much as 70% – adding up to millions of dollars in additional costs per voyage. The crisis is becoming financially painful for Indian shipowners, especially those with fixed-term contracts.
