Chennai: Chennai Super Kings It’s mid-season, but medium pace bowler Anshul Kamboj appears to be their breakout star. With 17 wickets at an economy rate of 7.54 in nine matches, including 3-32 against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, Kamboj has been the leader of the CSK attack in both the powerplay and slog overs. With the wickets of Robin Minz and Hardik Pandya in the 18th and 20th overs at Chepauk on Saturday, Kamboj became the first bowler to take 10 wickets in the death overs this season. The right-arm fast bowler is treating the death overs like a finishing task, which he has practiced to perfection. He is known to get around the stumps extensively, especially for right-handed batsmen, changing his length according to the stage of the game and regularly bowls yorkers.CSK head coach Stephen Fleming doesn’t think Kamboj’s heroics come as a surprise. “Last year, he was really good. He has worked hard with Eric Simmons (bowling coach) on the concept of deathballing and he has worked throughout the year to master it,” Fleming said.In the last IPL season, Kamboj took eight wickets in eight matches at an economy of 8.00. Shortly after, he stepped onto the biggest stage, making his Test debut for India, but his return against England was not strong enough to keep him safe for long. However, this season, he has returned with more vigor and has taken up a central role in CSK’s pace attack after Khalil Ahmed’s injury.Fleming said Kamboja worked on angles and execution in pre-season. “During the pre-season, he bowled with open wickets and we got an understanding of the angles – what he can and can’t do from certain sides of the wicket and it has worked out well,” he said.Cricket in India is on the rise across all formats after the IPL and Kamboj’s stellar performances may soon push him back into the national fast bowling setup. But for Kamboj, team performance is more important than individual achievements. Before the match against MI, he had said, “My entire focus is on how to contribute to the team’s victory.”CSK will be in a winning position from Tuesday and the team will hope that Kamboj will stick to his guns.

Israel issues evacuation warning; 1 killed, 4 injured in Lebanon attacks

Israel issues evacuation warning; 1 killed, 4 injured in Lebanon attacks

BEIRUT: Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon on Sunday killed at least one person and wounded four rescue workers, Lebanon’s health ministry said, as Israel continued its attacks on the country despite a fragile ceasefire in the war with Hezbollah. In separate statements, the ministry said at least one person was killed and three were injured, including a child, in an attack on Arbasalim, and another attack on Sriffa wounded five people, including four rescue workers from the Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Committee.“The ministry reiterates its condemnation of these repeated attacks and recalls that Article 19 of the Geneva Conventions includes the requirement to verify that medical facilities are protected from any danger caused by attacks in conflict areas, while what is happening is exactly the opposite,” it said.Israel’s military issued a new evacuation warning on Sunday for villages beyond its occupied territory in southern Lebanon. The warning covers more than 10 villages and towns, including several in the Nabatieh district, north of the Litani River, south of which Israel has deployed troops.Arabsalim and Shrifa were also included in the warning.Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported a series of Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, including attacks on towns not mentioned in the evacuation warning.Since April 17, a fragile ceasefire has been in effect between Israel and Lebanon, aimed at stopping violence between the Hezbollah terrorist group and Israel’s military. On Wednesday, Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir threatened to attack Hezbollah “beyond the yellow line”, which marks the zone of Israeli control. “Any threats against our communities or our forces, anywhere, including beyond the yellow line and north of Litani, will be eliminated,” he said during a visit to Israeli troops. The armistice text gives Israel the right to take action against “planned, imminent or ongoing attacks”.

‘Election results, earnings will drive the market this week’

He said investors will also keep an eye on developments related to the West Asia conflict and the Strait of Hormuz. Counting of votes for five assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry will begin on Monday, May 4.“The most immediate catalyst will be the results of key state elections, with investors closely watching to see if the ruling party at the Center can wrest West Bengal from the Trinamool Congress and make meaningful inroads in opposition-ruled Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) currently has a limited presence,” said Hariprasad K, research analyst and founder of Livelong Wealth.Hariprasad said crude oil remains the most important macro variable.“With Brent prices remaining elevated amid ongoing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, inflation risks remain evident. For an import-dependent economy like India, persistently high crude oil prices will put pressure on the rupee – which is currently near record lows – and weigh on corporate margins as well as fiscal dynamics,” he said.Announcements of macroeconomic data, fourth quarter earnings and foreign investor trading activity will also influence stock market trends this week. “Crude oil price trend will remain the primary external variable, with the ongoing US-Iran standoff and closure of the Strait of Hormuz likely to remain volatile,” said Ajit Mishra, SVP (Research), Religare Broking.Key macroeconomic data releases include HSBC manufacturing PMI (May 4), services and composite PMI (May 6), and foreign exchange reserves data (May 8), which will provide information about economic momentum and external sector stability, he said.Major corporate earnings announcements this week are from Ambuja Cements, BHEL, Hero MotoCorp, Mahindra & Mahindra and Bajaj Auto. “Markets are likely to remain volatile and heavily news-driven in the coming week,” said Ponmudi R, CEO of online trading and wealth tech firm Enrich Money.

More Strait talks: Trump launches ‘Project Freedom’ to guide ships through Hormuz

More Strait talks: Trump launches 'Project Freedom' to guide ships through Hormuz

US President Donald Trump unveiled an initiative called “Project Freedom”, which aims to assist commercial ships currently stuck in the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions in the Gulf region. In a post on Truth Social on Sunday (local time), Trump said that several countries had requested US assistance to help their ships safely exit the strategically important waterway. The US President said, “Countries around the world, almost all of which are not so directly and violently involved in the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict, have asked the United States if we can help free their ships, which are stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, which they have nothing to do with.”He said the US would intervene to ensure the safe movement of the affected ships. “For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these countries that we will escort their ships safely out of these restricted waterways, so they can go about their business freely and efficiently,” he said.Trump said that the ships involved belong to countries that are not directly involved in the current conflict. “Again, these are ships from areas of the world that are in no way connected to what is currently happening in the Middle East. I have asked my representatives to inform them that we will do our best to get their ships and crews out of the strait safely,” he said.He further said that once the ships left, they would not return until the situation became safe. “In all cases, they said they would not return until the area was safe for navigation and everything else,” he said.Trump said the initiative, called “Project Freedom”, would begin Monday morning (Middle East time). “This process, Project Freedom, will begin Monday morning Middle East time.”He also said that US representatives are engaged in “very positive discussions” with Iran, which suggests possible diplomatic progress.“I am absolutely aware that my representatives are having very positive discussions with the country of Iran and that these discussions can lead to something very positive for everyone,” Trump said.He said the movement of the ships was aimed at assisting people unaffected by the conflict. “The aim of the cruise movement is simply to liberate people, companies and countries who have done nothing wrong – they are victims of circumstance,” he said.Describing the initiative as humanitarian in nature, Trump said, “This is a humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, the Middle Eastern countries, especially the country of Iran.”He also highlighted concerns over the supply situation on ships. “Many of these ships are running short of food and everything the crews need to live in a healthy and hygienic manner,” he said.Trump warned against interference in the operation. He said, “If, in any way, this humanitarian process is interfered with, then unfortunately, that interference will have to be dealt with forcefully.”In a separate development, Trump also rejected Iran’s latest proposal to address the regional conflict, calling it “not acceptable.” Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said Tehran had received Washington’s response to its proposal and was currently reviewing it. According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the resolution was presented as a response to the US plan and called for an end to hostilities on multiple fronts, including in Lebanon. While the US had proposed a two-month ceasefire, Iran has insisted on a shorter timeframe of 30 days and stressed that priority should be given to ending the war rather than extending the ceasefire. The Iranian proposal also demands guarantees against military action, the withdrawal of US forces from areas near Iran, the release of frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions and the establishment of a new mechanism to manage the Strait of Hormuz.

Congress: Government ignored Nicobar concerns. india news

Rahul Gandhi, Congress Protesting its stand on Sunday, it said the Center has failed to address the serious concerns raised by affected local communities, environmentalists, anthropologists, academicians and voices of civil society regarding the project. The opposition party also demanded a parliamentary debate on the issue to address transparency and security concerns.Congress leader Jairam Ramesh refuted the government’s claim that the project is a strategic initiative to strengthen India’s presence in the Andaman Sea, quoting former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Arun Prakash (Retd), who had argued that “the security capabilities of the ANC (Andaman and Nicobar Command) need to be addressed separately and should have no link with the development contemplated for GNI (Great Nicobar Island)”.In the four-page note, Ramesh said, “There is thus no need to conflate India’s legitimate security imperatives with the so-called ‘development project’ – with a township, high-end tourist infrastructure and a large transshipment terminal – that the Modi government is bent on dismantling…”The party alleged that the government is in “damage control mode” after the recent visit of Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, to the island. Ramesh argued that the Great Nicobar ecosystem is unique and cannot be compared with other islands in the archipelago.Flagging significant concerns with respect to the Nicobari and Shompen groups, he pointed out that the Nicobari community had withdrawn its No Objection Certificate (NOC) for forest diversion in November 2022.
