Political crisis deepens in Tamil Nadu: Stalin puts pressure on Governor for quick action

Stalin said, “I extend my hearty congratulations to Mr. Vijay, leader of the victorious Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam, who has now assumed the honored role of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. I also welcome the proclamations that you signed soon after assuming office.”“Don’t just start saying that the government doesn’t have money. Everything is there. What is needed is the will to give money to the people and the ability to govern,” he said.Stalin said his government has implemented many welfare schemes despite facing challenges like the Covid pandemic, floods and what he termed neglect by the BJP-led central government.“In your very first address you mentioned the allegation that the previous government left behind a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and emptied the treasury before leaving. Tamil Nadu’s debt level is within acceptable limits,” he said. The comments come after Vijay announced that his government may release a white paper on state finances to ensure transparency. In his first speech after taking oath as chief minister, Vijay said, “After reviewing everything, I intend to release a white paper for the people. I want my government to be a transparent government.”“As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, if I have to meet someone, I will not do it secretly or behind closed doors. Whatever I do, I will do it openly and transparently. Also read: TVK ends DMK-AIADMK era, actor-politician Vijay sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief MinisterIn his speech, Vijay accused the previous DMK government of leaving a debt burden of more than Rs 10 lakh crore.“Today, I have seen firsthand the condition in which our Tamil Nadu government has been left. The previous government left with a debt of more than Rs 10 lakh crore. The treasury was completely emptied before they left office,” he said.“I am not saying this for effect. Only after going inside and seeing things firsthand can one understand what is there and what is not there,” he said.Vijay also vowed not to misuse public funds and said his government would give priority to education, roads, drinking water and other essential services.“Even if some people insult me, whether they are friends or enemies, all 8 crore people are still my people,” he said.“As I said earlier, I will not touch even a single penny of public money,” he said.Soon after taking oath, Vijay signed his first set of official documents, approving 200 units of free electricity supply and constituting a special task force to combat drugs and ensure the safety of women.Vijay, often referred to as “Thalapathy” by supporters, attracted huge crowds during the election campaign, leading to comparisons with the actor-turned-politician and former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran.Tamil Nadu has a long history of actors entering politics, and Vijay’s rise to prominence brings back memories of that tradition following the political journey of the late Vijayakanth.Although TVK was formally launched only in 2024, Vijay had long been involved in social work and often addressed socio-political topics such as corruption and the drug menace through his films. In the 2026 assembly elections, Vijay won from both Perambur and Trichy East and is expected to vacate one of the two seats.

IPL 2026, RR vs GT: Shane Bond says RR bowlers should think differently after 200-plus leak

RR bowling coach Shane Bond criticized his bowlers after they once again gave away a score of over 200 during the defeat to Gujarat Titans on Saturday, May 9. Rajasthan gave 229 runs in the first innings Against GT at Sawai Mansingh Stadium and lost the match by 77 runs.

In the last three matches, Rajasthan have scored 229, 222, 226 runs before losing to Gujarat. During the clash in Jaipur Jofra Archer had a very bad outingHe bowled one over in the last 11 balls and gave away 46 runs during his three-over spell. The defeat also means RR have lost three games in Jaipur this season.

In the press conference after the match, Bond said that Rajasthan did not play well in the conditions. He said that RR bowlers need to think outside the box.

Bond said the decision against GT was not consistent enough

“We haven’t played well in the conditions that we know we’re in. We’ve been outmatched by our opponent,” Bond said. “I look at the bowlers, they just have to be better, right? You have to think outside the box a little bit. There are two things: decision making and execution. I think tonight, you probably noticed that the execution wasn’t consistent for quite a while.

‘Bowlers need to think differently’

with IPL Seeing the batsmen being overly aggressive, Bond said the bowlers need to think outside the box to deal with them and get results.

“And I think if you look across the board in the IPL, that’s just what has happened. The batsmen, they’re coming in, they’re playing ultra-aggressive, and putting pressure on the bowlers. So as a bowler, you have to ask, OK, ‘What can I do differently?’ [They] I have to spend more time with the analysts to know where each batsman is going to go… which areas they are going to score in,” Bond said.

RR’s bowling coach said that the bowlers are not developing themselves and claimed that the only way to go about things would be to feel the opportunity to shine amidst all the batting chaos.

“I may have to bowl short runs and long runs. I have to be able to come around the wicket and bowl to both sides. So, when you see bowlers doing the same thing, game after game after game, getting the same results, my question would be: You have to do something different and develop your game. Now you look at the batsmen, they are playing uppercuts, they are reverses, they are scooping. They have developed a lot of range. Shots. So a bowler has to develop his range of skills as well. I think it’s a great opportunity for any bowler: ‘If I can do that, I can earn myself a lot of money and become a superstar.’

“I don’t think you’ve seen that consistently. It’s certainly not easy for the bowlers, but you can either be scared of it, scared of what’s going on out there, or see it as an opportunity to get better and maybe make a name for yourself,” Bond said.

After a week’s break, RR will next face DC on May 17.

PM Narendra Modi said, Congress is 'parasite'; DMK split targeted

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modiaccused the opposition on Sunday Congress of becoming a parasite after being separated from one’s old partner DMK In Tamil Nadu.“DMK stood with the Congress for three decades and saved the Congress time and again during crises. The UPA government before 2014 also survived due to the support of DMK. But as soon as the political equations changed, the power-hungry Congress stabbed the DMK in the back...Now Congress is looking for some other party to ride as a parasite.”Speaking to thousands of supporters who gathered at the HAL airport to welcome him before he left for Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living International Centre, Modi took out about 30 minutes to address the gathering. State leaders attempted to consolidate support with ‘anti-Bangladesh’ and ‘save Hindu’ slogans.Modi listed the downfalls of the Congress in various states: In Himachal Pradesh, the Congress-led government has not been able to pay salaries; Farmers are being driven to suicide in Telangana; And governance in Karnataka has lagged behind due to internal strife. While he said the Congress machinery is betraying the country by focusing on how the government has not been formed in Tamil Nadu, he said: “But in Kerala, despite having the majority, to form the government, they are unable to decide on ministers – should they use the 2.5-year formula or the one-year-per-CM formula? No solution is still at hand.”He pointed to the pattern of ‘stabbing party MLAs in the back after making promises to them’. Modi said, “This has happened in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and it is continuing in Karnataka too; now it is Kerala’s turn.”Saying that the BJP is continuously expanding in the South, and people want “politics driven by speed, scale, solutions and national policy”, he said the BJP, which has now secured three seats in Kerala, is reaching a stage where victory in the state is no longer far away.
